get your head out of the sand
It's funny... once you start thinking for yourself and stop letting religion think for you, you'll discover (well... I've discovered...) something quite interesting.
That which used to seem so amazingly wrong and sinful seems fine, or even good. Be it your language or what you do with your time, etc.
And that which seemed good, the things that "good Christians" do, now seems to be very silly and pointless. Dumb, even. Running in circles, jumping through hoops, just to find yourself right where you started.
Why is that? Control issue, maybe? Uh huh.
Just an observation.
Another observation on Christians. This one is a movie quote. I cannot remember which movie it was from, but it doesn't really matter.
"He's a Christian. Y'know, Christians? They don't drink, they don't swear, they don't fuck."
In all honesty, that's pretty much the difference between Christians and non-christians. Take a serious look at it. No joke. So, that being the case, my resolution is not to let a title get in the way of me living my life. Live it up!
But... that's just another observation.

First off, despite my überl33t Google skills, I was unable to find the quote. IMDB failed me as well. I find that sad. But brilliant quote, anyway.
But yeah, pretty much. I remember only a year or two ago thinking (at a Christian camp, listening to a guest speaker), "Wow. Secular humanism. That's messed up. Who are we to govern ourselves? I can't say what's right or wrong. I don't know enough to do so." The frightening part is there's millions of people who still think that way. It's very much a control issue.
Orwell puts it very well in 1984...
"The sexual act, successfully performed, was rebellion. Desire was thoughtcrime."
...
"It was not merely that the sex instinct created a world of its own which was outside the Party's control and which therefore had to be destroyed if possible. What was more important was that sexual privation induced hysteria, which was desirable because it could be transformed into war-fever and leader-worship. The way she put it was:
'When you make love you're using up energy; and afterwards you feel happy and don't give a damn for anything. They can't bear you to feel like that. They want you to be bursting with energy all the time. All this marching up and down and cheering and waving flags is simpIy sex gone sour. If you're happy inside yourself, why should you get excited about Big Brother and the Three-Year Plans and the Two Minutes Hate and all the rest of their bloody rot?'"
Yeah. Not to harp on sex, but it's probably the primary thing among your list that Christians have issues with. Alcohol, and to a lesser extent profanity, is accepted in some of the denominations. But sex outside of marriage (that is, a "traditional" marriage) is pretty much verboten with all of 'em.
indeed. language is kinda of a *tsk tsk** issue. Alcohol is accepted in some denomontations and churches, such as Grace. Youth pastor and his wife, as well as pastor and his wife, and others drink wine frequently. No big deal. But no matter where you go, sex is bad. End of story **rolls eyes**
LMFAO!
Aww... did the literature quotes scare you? I could go for Dr. Seuss next time, if you want. Not that Dr. Seuss doesn't rock. 'Cause he does. But yeah.
Aww Dr. Seuss
I think it all comes down to fear and control. If people discovered the magnificent truth of who they are, then they could no longer be controlled and that would get messy for the 'powers that be', as it were. And there would be more love than fear......
So, I say, take the truth and leave the brainwashing and decide for yourself.
Does God exist or not, are there angels, was Jesus any more than an amazing person who dedicated his life to love, forgiveness and healing others (like yogis and buddha and other sages and prophets both living and dead), what do you value, who are you?
These are all questions you need to answer for yourself.
Power to you and may your heart find safety to heal from all that you have been through and may you rise phoenix like from the ashes of suffering to be liberated in love, light and beauty.
Beth
